DECKUNG

DECKUNG

The documentary short follows Maria, a young lawyer based in Berlin, through her daily work between the law firm and the courtroom, navigating the space between activism and powerlessness. She represents women whose experiences of violence are too often overlooked by the legal system. Maria reflects on the challenge of balancing her role as an objective legal professional with that of an emotional support figure for her clients, a demanding dual responsibility. The film also features experts from the support network for survivors of violence, whose fragmented testimonies broaden the perspective on the structural conditions under which Maria and her clients must operate. Together with Maria, the film examines a system designed to protect, yet one that too often perpetuates violence. It asks what must change for safety and protection to finally become the system's true priority.
